Towards a quality management system
The Mérieux Foundation Quality Initiative is based on the LQSI (Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation) tool proposed by the WHO and the Royal Tropical Institute (https://extranet.who.int/lqsi/fr). It translates the ISO15189 standard into practical steps and is designed to help laboratories to implement a quality management system compliant with international requirements. LQSI is organised into 12 themes, called “quality system essentials”, each of which has a step-by-step plan. CICM has been implementing the phases described in the LQSI to set up a quality approach since 2019.
An initial evaluation of the laboratory has already been carried out to review the situation after one year of remote assistance. Following this evaluation, a quality action plan will be developed to obtain ISO 15 890 accreditation within the next few years.
During 2019, the biologist-quality manager completed an on-line training course: “Quality management including the Quality Initiative MOOC” (knowledge programme with certificate) and certifying quizzes on the Quality Initiative E-learning (programme for quality assurance manager, biologist, metrologist, secretary and technician profiles).
A three-day training course run by doctors from the ministry of public health on the LEAN Management “5S” method was also organised for personnel in 2019.
